$17 million to widen the road to enable a wire barrier. The sea wall removed etc. you must ask - how easy it would have been for another lane (or two) to have been added.
With no political will - the finished job will not enable any increased flow on this road. Everyone is continually told it is a dangerous killer road and hence the slow 60 - 70 kph when there is an 80kph limit. Any bets it stays the same when the job is completed.
With proposals to double track the adjoining railway expect more upheaval and distruption should this proceed following the completion of the wire barrier.
