I get the feeling that plans are something the region DOESN'T have.

They have suggestions and outlines and ideas, but they don't actually seem to DO anything with them.

I mean, any fool can have plans. Doing something with them is the hard part. ANd having "a plan for this" and "a plan for that" isn't much use either. One plan, that encompasses the region, coherent, logical and actually ACTED upon might just be worth doing.

As a rhetorical question, how many years has the transmission gully route discussion been going on? And how many years to implement what ever route is finally decided on. I'll be dead by the time the thing gets done!

There, that's my 10 cents worth for today. :D

All the plans were done in the 50's by the good old MOW. They should have been dusted off and implimented.
Now we have thrown progress over to Councils and committees and community consultation. They employ consultants who produce these plans always setting the stage for more planning work and so it just keeps on going.
Guess who win - the people getting paid for the plans.
Pity the people - the mugs who pay and pay for no actual progress.

Of course the Greater Wellington Regional Council doesn't have a plan. How else can we explain the two greatest disasters ever in public transport? They claim to want to increase public transport usage but when droves of newbies wanted to use the trains, there hadn't been any investment for over 10 years and so weren't enough carriages! They wanted a new timetable and extra trips from Stagecoach buses resulting in the creation of 50 extra shifts but forgot to come up with 50 extra drivers! The result? Chaos with advertised buses not running, 70 trips per day cancelled, passengers left standing for hours - and no doubt many vowing never to catch a bus again. Those idiots at GWRC are resposible for an annual public transport spend of $60million of ratepayers money and always cock it up. Plan? What plan!

If you want some plans, go here: http://www.gw.govt.nz/section1146.cfm
I just wish they'd hurry up with the Ngauranga-Airport Study - that's going to be damn hot!

They better not go ahead with the idiotic tidal flow system for the terrace tunnel. If the terrace tunnel is duplicated I'll be happy.
